Death is a very real part of life in RaS and it is not impossible that on a quest or during a storyline that your character might die. This could just be how the cookie crumbles, or maybe you made bad decisions. It's a world of consequences out there. If you fail to heal your character before the "big" battle, you might die!
If your character dies you have three options.
Option One
Your character is dead. Everyone mourns their death. A library or road is named in their honor. You may bring in a new character and transfer any relic items you've gained to that character such as relic weapons, armor, magic items. (NOT skills, spells, strength, fearlessness, etc). Your new char starts with 0 AP but keeps all the loot. (Sometimes people want to start a new char and get rid of an old, if you ever want a char to die in a quest let me know and I'll see if I can arrange it.)
Option Two
You gain a resurrection for your character from a cleric. You take a blow to your strength (AP) and go down one level.
So let's say you are an Abet'zi Defender with 50AP. You die, get rezzed, you are now an Abet'zi Adept with 35AP. You take the minimum AP for that lower level. But you keep your char and all his stuff.
Option Three
You own a "Free Rezz Coin" from the Emporium BEFORE you die, or someone is kind enough to use one they already own, which may then be turned in for a free rezz. These cost cold hard gold coins but you don't lose AP, rank, or anything by using them.
GM NOTE: There are also certain magic items and relics you can gain through questing from time to time that will allow you a rezz with no consequences -- shhh!
