Back and forth between the Ivory Tower and the Grand Archives went the Lo’kh’ron, to the point where even the staff had decided to just leave him be for fear he’d become mad. There were whispers of that going around of course. That he was the insane Lo’kh’ron who had been lost for years and returned only recently. And somehow tricked his way into becoming an Oratio again. Of course, these were founded only partially in truth. And it made him chuckle a bit anytime he heard them. Of course, no one truly believed one could trick their way into such a position, but it made for interesting gossip, and it was harmless as far as he was concerned.
However it was true he had been gone quite a long time, and certain things needed to be caught up on. Current events, status of the other Oratio, and the influx of these outsiders into the realms. Which of course would take some time and pouring through a few newer and a few older tomes. But one thing that he’d never done properly, even before he had left, was learn about the Oratios of the past, not to mention properly learning about the tools they had been granted. He could practically hear Emmarie scolding him in he back of his mind. So he had gone about trying to rectify that issue. Some of the information he had wanted was found in the Ivory Tower, and some of the legends and half truths could be found in the Archives. All of it had shed a bit more information on what he truly was, and what his station had meant to those before him. It seemed the Oratio were chosen just as often for being different than they were for being similar. And it seemed each one had taken a slightly different approach to their duties, for better or worse. He wondered a moment how he would be considered in the future, even if he was only a holder of one of the secondary gemstones.
That was neither here nor there though. Instead he was focusing today on the tools themselves. He had read that they had the ability to take on shards of the ones who had wielded them before, to pass on some of that power. Which, of course, fascinated him. He knew they were linked to the time stream quite closely and that it made sense that they could retain an echo of each person, but it seemed there was something innately flawed about the assumption that power came from the past. While some would assume time was linear, he had long since abandoned that notion. Time progressed, yes, but that didn’t mean it did so in a straight and predictable pattern. Not to mention that alternate time streams existed after major events took place, and some were created from abuses of chronomancers and the like overstepping their bounds. So that begged the question, if time wasn’t truly linear, even if it just came to these alternate timelines, shouldn’t the timepieces be able to tap into that as well?
For a moment he wondered if he was thinking too much into this. Surely there had been others besides himself who had pondered the same thing. Emmarie alone was more than capable of realizing such things. But perhaps she had and had a reason not to do such? Or perhaps she merely thought it best to let others learn for themselves. Either way, he’d felt a power resonating inside his own timepiece and weapon, and he didn’t think it was from just him. Perhaps there was a power locked in there from the future as well. Or maybe there was a power from alternate timelines that were being fed towards the timepiece. Others might not even notice. He was certain some of the Oratio had not been chronomancers before getting their time pieces, not that he thought less of that. He however had been a rather potent chronomancer even among the Lo’khron. Though he sometimes wondered if that’s why he’d been chosen, he doubted it. But it did give him an idea of how time worked normally that many wouldn’t recognize. Either way, it was something to study.
He would bring all this up with Emmarie another day, and see what her opinion on it was. First he would study this hidden power, and see if there was a way to unlock it. Though he doubted he could do it alone. The time pieces had always been made to work together, even the newest ones still retained that trait, even if not as strongly as the originals. Perhaps together the active Oratios might find the way to unlock the truth, and their power, for the better of the lands, he’d hope.
