Instructor: Headmistress d'Syr
Halo of Noire: She headed down from her office, paperwork in hand, and moved
to the dais set up in near the stands. She was wearing her "fancy" robe,
which was merely a crimson long coat with buttons all the way from neck to
floor, fitted more
Halo of Noire: than the normal robes. Hair, still purple, was in a loose
bun. She looked around, and was a little disappointed that more people
weren't around like they were last time. But seeing Skhorn, she gave him a
wave and a smile and headed
Halo of Noire: behind the podium.
OnlineHost: tempered winds has entered the room.
El Diablo Skhorn: ::He waved back, and offered a smile, then put his book on

came to magic and Psionics. He had been studying with his nose in the books
and in practice for a

Halo of Noire: Now behind the lectern* on top of the podium haha, she put
her papers out on the lectern stand and would wait a few more minutes to see
if anyone else was going to attend.
tempered winds: John made his way into the arena with a folder tucked under
his arm. Random pieces of notes and paper were sticking out from the top and
he glanced around briefly before claiming a seat. Nod and wave was offered to
those who were
tempered winds: present.
Halo of Noire: Wave was given to John along with a smile.
tempered winds: "Good evening!" He called out with enthusiasm before setting
the folder down across his lap.
Halo of Noire: "Good evening to you as well!" She grinned and began to flip
through her paperwork, until she got to the section that they needed to
continue with tonight. "Well, hmm, I wonder if anyone else is coming. Seems
like a slow night
Halo of Noire: tonight."
OnlineHost: vXCloakofShadows has entered the room.
OnlineHost: A Song Forgotten has entered the room.
x Silver Heat x: Akito stepped into the Arena wearing his blue robe over a
basic black t-shirt, faded jeans and combat boots. He wasn't sure whether he
should be wearing his robe to this event but better safe than sorry. He found
a seat near the
x Silver Heat x: others and allowed jaded browns to survey the room. [d]
Halo of Noire: She preferred robes to be worn, but she wasn't going to call
anyone down for not wearing them. She was in hers though, and gave Akito a
smile and a wave as he walked in, then glanced to the door for a few moments
in case anyone else
tempered winds: John totally forgot his robes. He eyed Akito for a moment
and nodded in greeting. "Hey there."
OnlineHost: Amuiril Travm has entered the room.
OnlineHost: aIl that we seem has entered the room.
El Diablo Skhorn: (( Ammy is on his way ))
El Diablo Skhorn: (( there he is! ))
Amuiril Travm: Amuiril quietly arrived, his dark armor mantled in blue
cloth.
Halo of Noire: was going to head in before she began the lesson. "Those of
you who weren't at our last lesson, like I said in the letter I sent, the
recording is available. Tonight's lesson will complete the first one.
x Silver Heat x: Catching the smile of greeting, Akito offered a nod in
reciprocation and a half salute. "Yo." He responded to his General.
A Song Forgotten: Linnea arrived at the door, panting softly for breath.
She'd clearly run here. She was dressed in typical blue jeans and untucked
t-shirt, one shoe's laces untied. Gathering herself up to stand a bit taller,
she entered the arena
El Diablo Skhorn: ::Skhorn looked over, catching view of his commander and
waved to him::-d-
A Song Forgotten: with measured steps, doing her best to not look exhausted.
Amuiril Travm: "..."
Amuiril Travm: Wordlessly, the Vectorian moved to the audience seats, and
sat down at the first available armless chair.
tempered winds: He waved over to Lin and pointed to the seat next to him.
Halo of Noire: "Alright, everyone take a seat, get comfortable, and let's
begin." (one sec)
A Song Forgotten: Spotting John waving her over, she picked up her pace in
his direction. She stumbled over her shoe laces right as she got to the seat,
tumbling into it. She twisted as she fell, plopping her butt into the seat.
Yeah, she totally
A Song Forgotten: meant to do that.
aIl that we seem: Ethan hadn't been able to find anyone to look him over, so
he'd just ended up doing his own treatment -- he was a doctor, after all --
and managed to find his way to the Arena. He didn't have a reason for being
there, other then
tempered winds: "Nice move." He grinned to her before turning his attention
up front.
aIl that we seem: *than curiousity and perhaps a touch of hope that someone
there could him with his situation. He was limping pretty heavily, but he
made his way to the edges of the area and kept to himself.
A Song Forgotten: "Thanks." A tilted grin was shot at John, then she turned
her attention up front as well.
aIl that we seem: Oh, there were seats? He took one, then.
Halo of Noire: "Alright folks, we ended last session talking about
Evocation. Someone remind us all what the school of Evocation is all about?"
El Diablo Skhorn: ::Skhorn raised his hand;:-d-
Halo of Noire: "Please, Skhorn."
El Diablo Skhorn: ::Skhorn stood from his seat and cleared his throat::
“Evocation spells manipulate energy or tap an unseen source of power to
produce a desired end. In effect,
El Diablo Skhorn: they create something out of nothing. Many of these spells
produce spectacular effects, and evocation spells can deal large amounts of
damage. For example, an elementalist would benefit mostly from Evocation"-d-
OnlineHost: vXCloakofShadows has left the room.
OnlineHost: burn bodies has entered the room.
El Diablo Skhorn: ::He sat back down in his seat after speaking.::-d-
Halo of Noire: "Indeed. So our elementalists spells are usually going to be
in the school of Evocation. So things like producing fire, pulling the water
from the air and creating ice daggers, a cone of cold, manipulating shadow,
or temporal energy
Halo of Noire: called chronoplasm, or ectoplasm, or anything of the like, is
going to be Evocation. This includes spells that create light, which I have
been encouraging all of the apprentices to at least have one spell that will
bring them light
Halo of Noire: in darkness for adventuring situations. Any questions on
Evocation, I just wanted to touch it again, before we move on?"
aIl that we seem: Ethan was listening quietly, but he didn't ask anything
since they'd already covered the topic.
Amuiril Travm: "..."
Amuiril Travm: "The psionic equivalent is psychokinesis, correct?"
x Silver Heat x: Akito knew this well as he was of the elementalist house.
He listened though, nodding some as the topic was covered.
OnlineHost: Amuiril Travm has left the room.
OnlineHost: Amuiril Travm has entered the room.
Halo of Noire: "Hmm. I believe pyschokinesis is a general term for psionic
powers, but more specifically I would be talking about aerokinesis,
cryokinesis, pyrokinesis... " She wasn't as knowledgeable about psionics as
she'd like to be, but she
Halo of Noire: thought that was right."
Halo of Noire: "Our next school of magic is called Illusion. And there are a
few sub-schools within illusion. Now, what you have to realize about
illusions are that they can be "fake" so to say, and not really
Halo of Noire: affect anything BUT as many of my apprentices know there is a
type of illusion that can very truly make physical appearances and can even
kill you if you let it."
El Diablo Skhorn: ::Skhorn nodded...He knew all to well of these illusions
and how they worked..Not fun stuff::-d-
Amuiril Travm: "..." Amuiril needed no reminder.
Halo of Noire: "The types of illusions are figments, glamers, phantasms,
patterns, and shadow illusions. The differences are as follows. A figment
gives you a fake feeling or sensation. They could make someone appear
invisible yet they are truly
Halo of Noire: right there in front of you, or they could make you smell
something that isn't around, or even make you hear noises that aren't there,
such as in a haunted house, often they are merely illusions put on to keep
people out and nothing
Halo of Noire: is truly there. They affect your mind, as all you psions know
the mind is a very powerful thing and if you tweak the right spots of the
might you could imagine to be standing in the most beautiful spot in the
world with a glamorous
Halo of Noire: woman, only to awaken and find yourself next to a green hag."
Grins. "Now, these things won't actually hurt you, and even if you thought
you were warm yet in reality you were standing in the winterfell freezing,
you'd be
El Diablo Skhorn: ::He spoke quietly to himself, as not to disrupt::
"Convince the mind...the body follows in suit."-d-
OnlineHost: DragonLightMage has entered the room.
Halo of Noire: frozen and frostbitten when the illusion fades. A glamer is
similar, but it focuses usually on one person, changing their senses so that
only they are privy to the illusion spell. So, a figment might be a haunted
house that produces
DragonLightMage: would take his seat, probably late he had finished his long
physical duties.
Halo of Noire: a sickning smell, and scary noises - all fake, but a glamer
would be a spell cast on someone so that when they eat anything sweet, their
senses will register it as salty. Does that make sense?"
Halo of Noire: "A pattern is also like a figment and can affect a group of
people. It affects the minds of all who are caught in the pattern illusional
spell. Now, a phantasm, now those are different, because those are more like
hallucinatory
Halo of Noire: visions that can be created in the mind or minds of the
target/s. It isn't so much a fake thing like a figment, that won't hurt them,
this can actually and truly harm you. Such as when I use the arena to test my
mages. Yes I created
Halo of Noire: the situation, but yes, the situation could kill you if you
don't think quickly. Another example of a phantasm is something called a
Nightscar, which can be cast on someone and it only shows up to the person or
persons chosen to see
Halo of Noire: that illusion. So for instance, you could mark a building as
a safe haven with this illusion spell and only those who are keyed into the
illusion can see it."
Amuiril Travm: "A phantasm clone of me to slice through thick
armor."
Amuiril Travm: ( Or a* )
OnlineHost: A Song Forgotten has left the room.
Halo of Noire: "Indeed. And there is also shadow illusions which you
actually weave shadows to create an illusion of something, and yes, they can
harm you as well. Such as when I allow one's own shadow to make an attack for
me. Damage dealt by a
Halo of Noire: shadow illusion is all too real."
El Diablo Skhorn: "There is a spell known as the Phantasmal Killer I read
about...Someone without a strong will...Dead instantly because of an
illusion"-d-
DragonLightMage: thinks was that like his shadow warrior?
Halo of Noire: She nodded and flipped her page, to move on. Of course,
questions could be taken at the end, or if important could be taken by a
hand. "We've two more schools to touch on, and then I want to speak of spells
that are in more than one
Halo of Noire: school. Our next school is called Necromancy. Not all
necromancy is evil, so if you are of that mindset, I want you to open your
minds a bit more. Now, I would say that there are very few "good"
necromancers out there. You will
Halo of Noire: normally find either some type of neutrality and of course we
run into our evil necromancers all the time. I don't mean to say they don't
exist, but "good" people usually find something amiss in the creation of the
undead, which is
OnlineHost: aIl that we seem has left the room.
Halo of Noire: a good portion of the necromancy school. Necromancy involves
death - yes - but necromancy also involves life, for one that can kill, has
power over death and life. So, they can manipulate the life energy sometimes
with a mere touch,
Halo of Noire: draining you of the life inside of you. Some necromancers
choose not to create undead but instead they learn this school of spells so
that they can control undead that have already been created. Creation, and
control of undead
Halo of Noire: creatures are two aspects of this school. Now, when I say
control I don't necessarily mean that they make them dig their gardens and
plow their fields. They can even have spells which destroy undead. So you
could very well find
Halo of Noire: supernatural hunters that practice necromancy. Another part
of necromancy is as I mentioned before, spells that harm people such as the
touch that sucks the life from you, or manipulation of negative energy. Try
having negative
OnlineHost: Exalted Wanderer has entered the room.
Halo of Noire: energy coursing through your body just once, you won't want
to repeat it. And lastly, as I mentioned last week.... necromancy can be used
to heal."
Halo of Noire: "Healing, through the manipulation of life energy.." She
stated, then looked around, to see if anyone had comments or questions.
Amuiril Travm: He raised his hand.
Halo of Noire: "As well as resurrections." Nods.
Halo of Noire: "Yes, Amuiril."
Amuiril Travm: The hand was lowered. "Some cultures view standard
healing spells and potions also as a form of necromancy."
Amuiril Travm: "The arguement lies on whether it is the creation of new
flesh and life, or the manipulation of life energy. The same falls for
ressurection spells."
Exalted Wanderer: Alex walked into the Magi Arena joining the others to
attempt to catch what he could of the lesson.
Amuiril Travm: ( resurrection* )
Halo of Noire: She nodded. "Voodoo is often thought to be linked to
necromancy, as there are so many reports of undead...or a type of "undead"
that is merely a poisoned creature who loses all thoughts of their own and
does someone's bidding. And
Halo of Noire: as Amuiril has stated, resurrection can very easily be called
a manipulation of one's life energy."
Halo of Noire: "So, when you hear necromancy, I hope that you don't merely
think undead, there is much more to the school than undead." She paused once
more.
Halo of Noire: "Our last school is referred to by some as Transmutation, or
Alteration. Now, this is a pretty simple explanation as the very name of the
school tells you what it does. It alters something, or mutates it. It takes
one thing, and
Halo of Noire: changes it into another. So, you don't create something out
of nothing... you actually have something before you, or you yourself, that
you alter. For instance, you could alter someone to give them extra strength
and power. You
Halo of Noire: could take a jackass and turn him into a frog." Smirks. "Such
as a Polymorph spell. You could go into your garden and make your roses grow
ten feet tall. You can alter your body's physiology to allow you to breathe
underwater. Now
Halo of Noire: I have a spell that I perform simply called Transmutation,
and I take the blood of a creature and use it to alter something on my body."
She stepped away from the lectern and pushed the sleeves of her robe up to
show her arms and
OnlineHost: LovelyGeminiCat has entered the room.
Halo of Noire: hands, and began to cast the spell. Her skin began to form
scales, such as a snake, and when she opened her mouth her tongue darted out
as long and forked as a snake. As quickly as she changed, it changed back to
normal and she
Halo of Noire: moved behind the lectern again. "Any questions on
Transmutation spells?"
LovelyGeminiCat: -He would come in to see Mela with the forked tongue. He
would smiled, amused seeing that.-
Halo of Noire: Hey a forked tongue had it's uses! She smiled at Mak, and
then looked to the others. "Well then, we will speak on one more thing.
Spells that fall into more than one school. I'll give you an example. Take
the spell that is
DragonLightMage: Snakey that was sneaky.
Halo of Noire: called "Seescroll" or "Scrollsee", this spell records certain
events on a parchment scroll - or any way you've changed it, so it could be a
notebook, a screen, a gemstone, but for now we speak of scrolls. Then, at a
later date, you
Halo of Noire: can go back and watch the events. Someone tell me at least
one school this would fall into?"
Amuiril Travm: "Divination."
Halo of Noire: "Indeed, and tell us why, Amuiril."
Amuiril Travm: "The spell itself is recording an event for you, one
that you do not personally observe or transcribe. This is a form of
scrying."
Amuiril Travm: "This can be both point blank, visible (short range), or
long range (non-visible)."
Halo of Noire: Nods. "Exactly, now can anyone tell me what the other school
it belongs to would be?"
Exalted Wanderer: "Weaving?" He had no idea but a guess never hurt.
Halo of Noire: "Weaving is how one casts magic, one way, it isn't a school."
Amuiril Travm: "..." He already answered once.
Halo of Noire: "Think this through, you have a scroll that you've........
fill in the blank."
DragonLightMage: "creation school?"
Amuiril Travm: "Changed. It is a form of transmutation. In addition
to viewing events, the spell is altering the shape of its own focus in order
to transcribe and record."
Halo of Noire: "Yes, you've altered it's properties, and it now allows you
to view what you've scryed at an earlier point. Ok one more, and maybe this
one will be easier. Let's say I cast a spell I'm going to call "Mouth Seal"
on Skhorn here, and
OnlineHost: Shameful Born has entered the room.
Halo of Noire: he can no longer go around insulting me in any way. If he
attempts to speak any defamatory , critical or insulting words about me, then
his mouth will physically seal shut and he cannot speak ANYTHING." Grins
wide. "Now, tell me
Halo of Noire: what schools would that be in?"
Exalted Wanderer: "Wouldn't that be another form of Transmutation?"
Halo of Noire: "I've caused him to not be able to speak anything insulting
about me AND if he tries or unthinkingly is going to say anything his mouth
seals up tight. Anyone?"
Halo of Noire: "Yes, Alex."
Halo of Noire: "And one other school, think of a mind altering school."
LovelyGeminiCat: In vampire culture, that would be considered flesh
crafting.
Amuiril Travm: "..."
Exalted Wanderer: "Psonics?" He knew little of other schools.
Amuiril Travm: "That is a style."
DragonLightMage: "necromancy?"
El Diablo Skhorn: "Psionics is definitely not a school, mind altering school
would be Illusion"-d-
Halo of Noire: "We talked about this school last week. Enchantment, is also
mind altering."
DragonLightMage: Thwap
Halo of Noire: "Remember, charms and compulsions are enchantments."
Exalted Wanderer: Watches as Amuiril gives him a cheat sheet. Guess he was
getting irritated that Alex was confusing styles with schools.
Halo of Noire: "Alright, I could keep giving you examples but that will
merely take more time away from your night, so I will now take questions
about any of the schools, whether we spoke of them last week or this week. If
you need to slip out at
Halo of Noire: this time, I thank you very much for attending. Now,
questions?"
El Diablo Skhorn: "Psions have it easy..We can do so many of the things that
mages can..Without the use of the 8 schools..And each one of them are done
with the same source"-d-
Amuiril Travm: "I have one."
Halo of Noire: "Now, the whole reason I wanted you all to understand the
schools of magic is because you may have apprentices who cast spells from
different schools than you and it is always good knowledge to have. Amuiril,
go ahead."
Halo of Noire: "There are sub-types of psionics as well, Skhorn. A psion
can't necessarily do everything and anything. Psions have focues as well,
such as cryokinesis, or chronokinesis."
Amuiril Travm: "I once encountered a sorcerer who was capable of
casting only illusions. However, he was able to produce fireballs, lightning
bolts, prismatic effects, and other spells that fall under evocation."
Amuiril Travm: "However, even when recognized as illusions, the spells
still produced damage, though less so than when fully believed."
Amuiril Travm: "How is that?"
Halo of Noire: "That is the nature of many illusions, such as patterns, and
phantasms. I could create a phantasm of an undead creature that could strike
you, and if you truly believe that it is undead in your mind, it will hurt
you. Even if you
Halo of Noire: don't believe it fully, if a mage is powerful enough, their
phantasms or illusions can do very real damage, not as much as the real thing
in some cases but enough. So, this illusionist was very crafty I think, to
produce evocation
Halo of Noire: spells as illusions. That's really the only thing I can think
of."
OnlineHost: SwordandBow has entered the room.
El Diablo Skhorn: "You may have come to terms that it is an illusion, but if
you can still see it...You clearly are not convinced fully..And as long as
the mind is affected by the illusion, it can still have effect on your
body"-d-
Amuiril Travm: "In other words... it's a type of Shadow effect?"
SwordandBow: She walked into the magi arena and looked around. She saw a lot
of people there, but only saw one. "Darien!"
Amuiril Travm: "Even though it's an illusion, it still has
substance?"
Halo of Noire: "Shadow illusions can cause a lot of harm, one of the
subschools of illusion." Nods.
Halo of Noire: "You have felt the power of a shadow illusion before."
Amuiril Travm: "..."
DragonLightMage: Waved "Sarah, class is almost over hun ssh" smiled.
Amuiril Travm: "I do believe you had me hospitalized, yes."
Halo of Noire: "That was not my intention."
El Diablo Skhorn: "Your mind makes it real Commander...That is the cruelty
of Illusion."-d-
Halo of Noire: "Now, another reason I want you all to understand the schools
of magic, is because we will be having a class on writing your own spells,
and to do that, I want you to be able to name what school it comes from. And
as we have a few
Halo of Noire: in here who don't understand casting types versus schools,
I'll just go over that really quick. The way one casts, such as through
psionics, or through weaving - which means you use some sort of outside
thing, incantation, spellbook
Halo of Noire: runes, wand, et cetera, or you can cast through soul energy,
or divine influence... those are types of casting. It usually doesn't change,
so if Skhorn who is a psion wants to cast an Evocation spell, he uses his
mind. If I want to
El Diablo Skhorn: ::Raises his hand::-d-
Halo of Noire: cast an Evocation spell, I would use a rune, or incantation.
If my friend Emmarie wishes to cast an Evocation spell, she uses the energy
from her god."
Halo of Noire: "Yes?"
El Diablo Skhorn: "Mistress, I've been doing WAY too much reading in the
last week...And due to my reading and my studies, im becoming more inclined
to believe there is a seperation between the world of Psionics and the world
of Magic. Though as to
El Diablo Skhorn: not confuse anyone else, I would like to continue this
conversation in private!"-d-
Halo of Noire: "Skhorn, as I said last week and I'll say again, that debate
has raged for centuries if not more, in all words of existence. If you
believe that psionics are not truly magic, that is your prerogative. It is
still a supernatural
Halo of Noire: ability. Then there are some, that call it magic, and it
comes down to 'what is magic' which is a class I intend on teaching, which
should spark a lot of debate."
Halo of Noire: worlds*
Halo of Noire: "And if you would rather not call your psionic spell that
deals with shadow, Evocation and would rather call it umbrakinesis, I don't
mind."
Halo of Noire: "As an example."
DragonLightMage: He had other reasons to believe about psionics, it came
from the mind not energies of the earth "I am sorry i was late, I must go , I
do hope there will be a scroll with this lesson?"
Halo of Noire: "The recording will be available (on the board)"
Halo of Noire: "Any other questions?"
OnlineHost: SwordandBow has left the room.
DragonLightMage: "alright, thank you" nods and walks with sarah.
OnlineHost: DragonLightMage has left the room.
Halo of Noire: "Then you are all dismissed, and I thank you from my heart
for attending. If you have other questions I'll stick around a little bit."
And she stepped from behind the lectern and gave a slight bow to them all.

in the school of Evocation.
