Each of you are required to participate in various solo studies, and I've been asked how to do the studies without doing the same thing each time. Of course some things are going to remain the same, such as with myself, I will always need to carve into my skin to learn a spell. But there are other things you can do as well. Here's a list. I will add more as I think of them.
(Remember each post needs to be at least 4 basic paragraphs long, or 4 entire posts (chat boxes) in a chat room)
(You have to study ONE spell, in 5 different study posts, chat logs or emails, to meet the requirement for Adept Rank - please send me all 5 of them at the end in one email unless otherwise directed)
1. Go to the magi library, or find a tome or book to study the components of your spell. Such as the incantation, the element associated with the spell, or anything that background research can tell you about the spell or type of spell.
2. If your spell requires components such as a special herb, blood from an elemental, hair from an giant, sand from the ocean, water from a sacred spring, grave dust, a certain crystal or gemstone.....you get the picture.
3. Meditation. This can be about the spell itself, or about your control and use of magic in general, or anything that affects your magic / energy usage.
4. Actually learn the spell. Does this involve writing it down in your spellbook? Then do that. Does this involve memorizing how to cast it? Does it involve placing the spell into some type of receptacle? Maybe creating or crafting a rune? Show how you go about learning the spell.
5. Practice casting the spell in private. Perhaps against a tree, on yourself, or a practice dummy. You can go to the magi arena if you wish, where there are wards to protect you and others from wild spells and energy.
6. Practice casting the spell in public, on a real person, or in a public place (in chat) where others see you and can react. (be sure to get everyone's approval before posting a log on the message board) You could have it backfire, not be powerful enough, or do something else that's screwy to make it interesting and show you need to practice more.
7. Cast the spell again, in public or private, and this time show mastery of the spell.
